At DESKO, we develop hardware and software solutions that help organizations worldwide verify identity documents in areas such as finance, travel, and access control. To strengthen our international software development team, we are looking for an experienced C++ Software Developer with a strong practical background in OCR, image processing, or computer vision.
The position is based in Singapore and works closely with our engineering teams in Singapore and Germany. You will contribute to the development and continuous improvement of production software for identity document reading and verification. You will also support selected customer and partner integrations across APAC.
Your Role
Your primary focus will be the design, implementation, testing, and improvement of OCR and image processing solutions. You will analyze document images and recognition results, identify systematic failure patterns, improve processing pipelines, and transfer successful concepts into reliable, maintainable C++ product software.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain production-quality C++ software for image acquisition, preprocessing, OCR, document analysis, and recognition
- Design, integrate, and improve image processing and computer vision algorithms for real-world document images
- Evaluate OCR results, identify systematic recognition errors, and optimize preprocessing and post-processing steps
- Work with variations in illumination, resolution, contrast, perspective, focus, reflections, colour reproduction, and acquisition devices
- Integrate OCR frameworks, image processing libraries, cameras, scanners, SDKs, and external systems into existing products
- Build diagnostic tools, automated tests, and reproducible validation workflows for product quality and regression testing
- Prepare and evaluate image datasets and define technical acceptance criteria for supported document types and variants
- Investigate whether product issues originate from image acquisition, image quality, processing, recognition, configuration, or system integration
- Contribute to software architecture, code reviews, performance optimization, debugging, and continuous integration
- Use Python where appropriate for prototyping, data preparation, analysis, and test automation, then transfer relevant results into maintainable C++ implementations
- Support customers and regional partners with product integration, troubleshooting, validation, workshops, and proof-of-concept activities
- Coordinate technical topics with product management and engineering teams in Singapore and Germany, including travel within APAC when required
Your Profile
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a comparable technical qualification
- Professional software development experience with modern C++
- Proven hands-on experience in OCR, image processing, or computer vision, ideally demonstrated through a relevant project and a clear description of your own contribution
- Experience in implementing, integrating, and evaluating image processing or recognition pipelines
- Sound understanding of software design, debugging, profiling, automated testing, APIs, SDKs, and system integration
- Experience with collaborative Git-based development and development for Windows or Linux environments
- Professional spoken and written English
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in an international team
- Willingness to support customers and travel within APAC when required
Beneficial Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas is an advantage:
- Identity document verification, passport or identity card processing, OCR, or KYC solutions
- Camera and scanner integration, machine vision, industrial inspection, or embedded systems
- Hardware and software integration or international customer projects
- Security, border control, travel, banking, hospitality, or access control solutions
Relevant Technologies
The role primarily involves modern C++, OCR, image processing, and computer vision. Relevant technologies may include OpenCV, Python, PaddleOCR or comparable frameworks, CMake, Git, CI workflows, automated testing, debugging and profiling tools, Windows and Linux, APIs, SDKs, cameras, and scanners.
Candidates are not expected to have experience with every technology. Strong practical expertise in OCR and image processing, combined with solid C++ software engineering skills and the ability to build reliable product software, is most important.

What qualifications should I have for this position?
As a software engineer in the field of computer vision, you will be responsible for the further development of our image-based algorithms. This requires a good understanding of algorithms, mathematics and logic. Ideally, you have already gained experience in this or related fields, such as signal processing, artificial intelligence, data science, etc.

Is the job also something for career changers?
It is not necessary to have a specialized degree for this position. Maybe you have studied mathematics and worked on algorithms and software development? Even if you are currently working in another field, the position with us could be just the right one for you.

What tasks are waiting for me?
As you may have read, we are developers and manufacturers of passport readers and barcode scanners. Behind these optical systems there are a lot of algorithms that are responsible for image data processing and pattern recognition. Your task is to optimize and continuously develop this software. This position offers exciting challenges, especially due to the application in the area of travel and identity documents.
